How To Squeeze A Pimple

How to squeeze a pimple

Everyone knows how annoying spots are, and the most annoying point is looking in the mirror after you’ve just washed your teeth and seeing a whitehead staring straight back at you. They really aren’t very attractive, especially, if you happen to have one in a very noticeable place.

You may think that you are more likely to get spots when you’re just a teenager, but in fact, you can get them even when you’re an adult too. This can actually be even worse, as you don’t want to be heading to a business meeting with a pimple on your face. There are some ways that you can get rid of them though, but there are some things that you should not try unless you want to make it worse.

So how does a pimple form?

Pimple

If you do happen to have a pimple or you suffer from them quite badly, you might want to discover what actually causes them first. This is because you will be able to understand what is causing them and you will be able to prevent yourself from getting them again. Therefore, in the long run, it can really benefit you.

If you look at your skin really closely, you will notice that you actually have very small holes that cover the whole of it, which are called pores. There is a whole load of things that can actually manage to block these; for instance, bacteria, oil, dirt, and dead skin cells. If this does happen then, it is likely to form a spot. In extreme cases, it can actually cause acne.

Acne

Acne is a little different to your average spot, and this is because there tends to be a lot more pimples and they also tend to be redder and noticeable. Plus, they also tend to be in clusters so you will have a group of pimples not just one on its own. Acne does tend to form on your face; however, you can also get it on other parts of your body too, like your back, chest, and neck.

There is another slight difference between acne and a pimple, and that’s the fact that when you have acne, you may also have blackheads too. This is caused the same way that pimples are actually caused, which means there is either too much oil on your skin that is produced by your follicles, there may also be dead skin cells that get stuck in your pores, or there could be a build up of bacteria.

What are the risks of getting pimples or acne?

There are no major health risks if you do have either of these, so there is nothing too serious to worry about. However, if you do happen to suffer from quite a lot of acne, then it may actually leave you with scars. Therefore you need to be careful about how you do treat it. If you notice that you think you may have a little bit of acne, it’s best to try and treat it straight away. This is because it will prevent scarring.

How can you get rid of small pimples?

As soon as you see that pimple on your face, you may want to instantly get rid of it. There are many different ways that you can get rid of it in the short term, like squeezing the pimple. However, there are also so many ways that you can get rid of them in the long term as well. You can also use the short-term solutions first and then carry on using the long terms solutions after.

Short Term Solutions

Squeezing the pimple

Squeezing the pimple

It is so very tempting to squeeze a pimple as soon as you see it on your face. However, this may not actually be the best option. This is because it can actually cause the bacteria from the spot to go deeper into the skin, and if the skin grows back over the top of the pus, then it can cause a cyst. A cyst can be quite painful and difficult to remove; therefore you may have to take a trip to your doctor to solve a cyst.

This isn’t the only issue when you do squeeze a pimple, as it is also able to leave quite a nasty scar, especially if you happen to get it infected by accident. Plus, if you touch any other part of your face after just squeezing the pimple, you may be likely to spread it. If you do spread it, then this is likely to make you have more spots and pimples over your face.

Not only this but if you do pick a pimple the wrong way, then you’re more likely to destroy the skin’s pore lines defense mechanism. This is because the pore line actually breaks down the fatty acids that are on your skin, and these fatty acids actually dissolve acne bacteria; therefore, when you do squeeze a pimple, you are destroying the cells that actually break down the fatty acids. In the long run, this can really damage your skin and cause you to get more pimples. Therefore it is very important that if you do pick a white head that you do it in the correct way.

Instead of squeezing the pimple one way that you can safely remove the pus is by draining it. To do this is you can get a professional to do it for you, as this is the safest way because they won’t actually damage any of your skin, as there wouldn’t bet too much pressure on the pus, so it couldn’t go deeper into your skin. This method actually works very well for blackheads as well, so if you do suffer from these too then, this is the perfect way to be able to extract both.

There is one slight problem with this method though, and that’s the fact that it is quite a time consuming and it might not be very ideal for you. Plus, if you struggle to get an appointment then by the time you do manage to get one the pimple may have gone on its own. Therefore this solution might be better for your skin, but it’s not very realistic unless you don’t have very much planned for the day or you can get an appointment quickly.

So here’s the safest way that you can actually squeeze a pimple:

safest way that you can actually squeeze a pimple
  1. First of all, you are going to need soft cloth and warm water.
  2. Wet the cloth with the warm water.
  3. Hold the cloth over the spot for just a few minutes. This will actually help to open and loosen the pore, plus, it will also soften the head of a pimple, so it will actually enable it to be drained more naturally.
  4. If a pimple doesn’t drain after this then just gently squeeze each side of it until it pops.
  5. It’s very important that you’re gentle with this procedure, because if you do squeeze a pimple too hard, then it can result in the pus going deeper into your skin. This could lead to other problems.

Before you do follow the steps above you should check to see if a pimple is ready before you do try and squeeze it. One way that you will know if the spot is ready to be squeezed is if the head of it is really white, and you can tell that it is at the surface of the skin. The reason why it is important that you only squeeze a pimple when it’s ready is that if you do try and squeeze it before then you can actually make it more inflamed and it will result in a pimple looking a lot bigger and more noticeable.

Another way to squeeze a pimple

If you don’t particularly like the method above then there is actually another safe way to successfully squeeze your pimple, just follow these steps:

  1. Use soap and water to wash your hands.
  2. You will need to grab a needle/pin and some rubbing alcohol.
  3. Pick up the needle and go towards a pimple at an angle that is parallel to the skin.
  4. Use the needle to pierce the very top of the whitehead, but it’s important that you don’t go too deep. If it does hurt you, then it may mean that the spot is not ready to be squeezed.
  5. Put your fingers on either side of the blemish and pull away from a pimple, the pus should pop out, and you wouldn’t have pushed it any deeper into the skin.

Creams and lotions

Creams and lotions

If you have noticed that you have got a spot forming and there is no whitehead at the top of the spot then there is a way that you can actually prevent it from forming anymore. You can do this by using different types of spot creams, however, if you’re a teenager, then you need to be careful about what creams you decide to choose. This is because some of the creams may be a little too harmful on your skin, especially when you’re a young age. Therefore it’s best to get ones that have tea tree oil or witch hazel. However, if you’re a bit older, then most creams and lotions will be suitable for you. You will just need also to be careful when you purchase a product if you’ve got sensitive skin because you wouldn’t want it to flare up any problems on your face.

After a few days of applying the cream or lotion, your spot should have gone down quite a bit or completely gone. You can also apply these on other areas of your face that are prone to getting pimples, and it should prevent you from getting any.

Toothpaste

Toothpaste

I’m sure you’ve heard about using this method before and I’ve even tried it myself and it works pretty well. You can use it before your squeeze the pimple to allow it to go down and you can even use it after you have squeezed it, so it can reduce the inflammation and redness. As soon as you apply the toothpaste, you will notice that there is a burning sensation pretty much straight away. This is because it actually contains ingredients that will dry out a pimple, which will then stop it from growing or becoming any worse.

However, there is something that you need to be careful about when you use toothpaste to get rid of a spot, and this is the fact that it can actually cause your skin to get damaged if you use the method too often or if you use the wrong type of toothpaste. The toothpaste that you should avoid is whitening pastes, colored pastes, high fluoride pastes, and gels. If you do want to apply toothpaste to your pimple then the best ways to do this is at nighttime and then sleep with it on your face. When you wake up in the morning, you should see a result.

Long-term solutions

There are some long-term solutions that you can stick to so it will reduce how many pimples you get and it can also prevent you from getting lots of acne.  If you do happen to suffer from either of them, then it may be best to try and stick to some of the solutions that are advised, as it will dramatically reduce how many you get and you will be surprised.

Reduce the amount of oily and fatty foods that you consume

Fatty Foods

You may not have realized this, but your diet can actually have a massive impact on the rest of your body, and the more unhealthy foods that you eat, the unhealthier your skin can actually become. When you eat fatty fast foods, like pizza, it can actually lead to the sebaceous glands becoming hyperactive.  These glands are actually found in your skin, and they produce sebum, which is a type of oily substance. Therefore it means that more sebum is produced and this is actually the perfect breeding ground for bacteria, which will then lead to acne and pimples on your face.

This is why it’s so important to eat a balanced diet because it is able to prevent your skin from becoming oilier. Plus, they are also able to provide your body with a whole range of other health benefits as well, and they will increase your overall health and make you feel better about yourself.

Don’t smoke

So you may be friends with a group of people that smoke and you may have even been smoking for quite some years yourself. If you do smoke, then it is known that your spots and pimples will get worse because of this. When you smoke a cigarette, it is usually full of other chemicals that are also extremely bad for you, which includes degrading your skin proteins and reducing the production of collagen. This means that your skin will actually lose its elasticity, which can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, and dry skin as well. Because there is a reduction in the collagen it means that your pores on your skin will become larger; therefore, bacteria and oil are more likely to get into the pores of your skin, which can then lead to acne and pimples.

Change your pillowcase more frequently

You will be surprised about how dirty your pillowcase is likely to get over just a few days. If you suffer from acne then it’s very important that you change it more frequently, in fact, you should actually change it at least twice a week. The reason for this is because each person on average spends seven to eight hours a night with their head on their pillow.

If you’re doing this each day, the bacteria from the spots are transferred onto the pillow. In the seven to eight hours that you’re going to be sleeping the bacteria actually has more than enough time to replicate itself. Therefore it can get to more places on your skin and cause acne where you may have not even had it before.

Pillowcase and Acne

Overall there are many different ways that you can help prevent spots from forming, and there are many short-term ways that you can instantly get rid of any pimples on your face. One of the quickest methods would be by squeezing your pimple; however, you do need to be careful when you do this.

This is because you could actually end up causing more damage to a pimple itself and your skin pore, which could actually mean that it could get bigger the next day, or it could form into nastier things like a cyst. Therefore it’s definitely best to follow our guide above to prevent any of these things from happening. There are also some other options that you can try, like creams and lotions and even by changing your lifestyle habits, like eating healthier foods and changing your pillowcase frequently.
