Using rose water for acne effectively in 5 easy steps + 6 Little known rose water skin benefits

Rose water for acne treatmentRose water is one of the most popular natural remedies for acne. This is, in part, down to the fact that it is incredibly cheap to prepare (or buy). The vast majority of people will also discover that it is highly effective on their skin.

Rose water is created by distilling rose petals in water, often by heating to an incredibly high temperature (although there is also another way to make it). By distilling the rose petals, you will be helping to release their essential oils. These essential oils are then mixed up with the water. Once you strain the rose petals out, you are going to end up with an incredibly potent natural remedy for acne.

Benefits of Rose Water on the Skin

When it comes to acne skin care, rose water is highly beneficial. This is because it is packed to the brim with all sorts of wonderful nutrients and vitamins.  This includes:

Vitamin A:

This vitamin is well known for its anti-ageing properties. However, its benefits can also extend to the health of skin suffering from acne. Vitamin A can help to soothe roughness of the skin, a common problem with acne. In addition to this, it can encourage a healthy cell turnover rate. This leads to smoother-looking skin which is less-prone to acne.

Vitamin B3:

If you are suffering from redness of the skin, vitamin B3 is highly beneficial. This is because it helps to keep your skin moisturized and keeps the irritants which may be causing your acne.

Vitamin C:

This vitamin helps to strengthen your immune system. The result is that your body is able to fight off the acne-causing bacteria far easier.

Vitamin E:

This helps to boost the amount of moisture in your skin. Reducing skin dryness will effectively reduce how susceptible to acne you are. In addition to this, it will provide a nice defensive layer for your skin. This will help to keep bacteria out.

Antioxidants:

Rose water is high in antioxidants. This helps to improve skin cell turnover rate.

Anti-bacterial:

Rose water has anti-bacterial properties. This means that it is able to fight off the acne-causing bacteria which are residing on your skin. Since it is able to fight bacteria head-on, it helps opening up your clogged skin pores.

In addition to this, rose water is known for its ability to act as an astringent. This means that it helps to tighten up the pores on your skin. This is incredibly beneficial because the smaller the pores are, the less likely they are to get clogged up with dirt and grime.

Who Can Use Rose Water for Acne?

One of the biggest benefits of rose water for acne is the fact that just about anybody can use it. There are a number of different acne treatments on the market, as you may well know. Most of these are suitable for just one skin type (dry, oily, or sensitive). However, rose water works on all skin types, so it should work for you.

Is Rose Hip Oil Better Than Rose Water?

Rose oil also comes from roses. It is prepared in a slightly different way to rose water, however. It is prepared using a process known as ‘steam distillation’. This is not something that you will be able to perform in your own home. At least, not with any great effect.

Rose oil tends to have a larger amount of fatty accidents and anti-oxidants. This, technically, makes it better for you than rose water. However, you do have to remember that rose oil is a lot more expensive to prepare and buy. Therefore, it is not something that you are going to want to be using on a regular basis to treat your acne.  If you do purchase it, you may just want to add a couple of drops to your bath water, or along with your soap every now and then. It provides a nice soothing effect. It isn’t really coming to perform the job that much better than the rose water. It just smells nicer.

Preparing Your Rose Water

preparing rose water for acneWhilst you can purchase rose water ‘readymade’, it is best, and quite often far cheaper, to prepare it yourself. There are a couple of different methods for this:

  • Purchase some distilled water. Place your fresh rose petals into a jar filled with this water. You should leave it out in the sun for at least a week.
  • If you do not have time to wait around, then you can also boil the rose petals. Fill up a saucepan with the distilled water and add your rose petals. You are going to want to allow this to simmer at a low heat until about half of the water is left in the saucepan. You can strain out the petals and use the pure rose water.

How to Use Rose Water for Acne

If you wish to use rose water for dealing with your acne, you should be aware that there are a few different ways of using it. Some of these methods are more effective than others.

Buy ready made rose water for acneFirstly, everybody with acne should have a ‘daily skin cleaning regime’. If you do not, you are only making your acne worse. Whilst there are a number of skin cleaners out there on the market, many people find that rose water is far better for their skin. You can mix a small amount of rose water up into the water that you are using to clean your skin. You don’t need a large amount, about 50-100ml should be sufficient. Remember, after you have cleaned your skin with rose water, you should moisturize well in order to ‘seal’ in all of that goodness!

If you do not wish to clean your face with the rose water, many people mix a couple of drops into their acne moisturizer. This will result in your face being exposed to rose water all day, which is incredibly beneficial to it. Rose water should not cause you any irritation.

Your next option, and perhaps the most beneficial, is to use a combination of lemon juice and water. This concoction is incredibly simple to make:

  • Add 15ml of rose water and 30ml of lemon juice to a bowl. Give it a good mix.
  • Wash your face normally. Use the cleanser that you are currently using to deal with your acne. Dry off your face.
  • Take a soft wash cloth and put it into the rose water. You want it to be completely saturated in the water.
  • Take the soft cloth and put it on your face. You want your facial skin to be completely covered in the rose water. Remove the cloth.
  • You want the rose water to be soaking into your skin for at least fifteen minutes. You can then rinse off your skin and dry.

Finally, you can also drink the rose water. If you are going to go down this route, you do not really have to prepare it yourself. You should be able to purchase rose water from health food stores or amazon with relative ease. It is surprisingly delicious and it will have benefits on your health beyond dealing with your acne.

Remember, you should only be using rose water for dealing with acne. It is never a treatment that you want to use with rosacea as the essential oils will cause irritation to the skin.

  1. I think this advice should include where the rose petals come from. You certainly would not want to use petals from rose bushes treated with any chemicals, i.e. pesticides!
